I woke up this morning with the plan to squeeze in a quick run before work, and luckily the weather cooperated! It was unseasonably cool thanks to some storms that have passed through overnight and although the levee was wet, the rained had stopped for now (but more wasnt far behind it).
Because it was dark so early in the morning and I wasn’t taking Pepper with me (she was grumpy about such an early morning and refused to get out of bed) I decided to run without my headphones in, mainly for safety reasons to be more aware of my surroundings. However, it ended up becoming one of the most relaxing runs I’ve had. Everything was so quiet, just the occasional horn of the river traffic, and even looking across the river to the French Quarter it still looked totally asleep. It was nice to appreciate the stillness of the morning.
As much as I love running with music, I need to remember to sometimes take a break and just enjoy the nothingness of an early morning run. Just what I needed before a hectic 12 hour shift in the ER.
